MEET BEN

    Benjamin Swan Jr. is a lifelong resident of the City of Springfield and has spent the better part of his life living in the 11th Hampden District. He has been married to Luz Maria Astacio Swan for 26 years, and together they have three children, Luzed, Alice, and Cora, and also serve as foster parents. They own their home in the McKnight Neighborhood where they have raised their family.

 

    Ben Jr. is the son of State Representative Benjamin Swan, Sr., who has held the 11th Hampden House Seat for nearly 23 years. His late mother, Alice Swan, was well regarded in the community as a charitable and kind career woman. Ben attended Margaret C. Ells Elementary School, Van Sickle Middle School, and Springfield Technical High School, and went on to attend STCC, University of Delaware, Western New England College, and the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

    Ben Swan Jr. has spent over thirty years in the private sector as a mechanical designer and an IT Systems Analyst, including twenty years at Smith and Wesson and over ten at MassMutual. In addition to the enormous undertaking  of

running a campaign, Ben now works full-time as an IT Systems Consultant, as well as a rental property owner and manager.

    In a volunteer capacity, Ben has served as an active member of the community. He is the current Chair of the Springfield Planning Board, and is a past President and current Board Member of the McKnight Neighborhood Council. He has also Chaired the Community Police Beat Meetings in Mason Square for the last ten years, and is a Past President of the Board of Directors for Springfield Partners for Community Action, where he now serves as the Clerk. In the past, Ben has served on the Advisory Board for the ROCA program,  as a mentor for Big Brothers Big Sisters, and a tutor in the Springfield Public Schools. Ben is also a member of the Ward 4 Democratic Committee.

    Ben Swan Jr. is running for State Representative to bring the needs, concerns, and ideas of every family in the 11th Hampden District and throughout Springfield to the State House, and to ensure that every constituent enjoys the best representation possible.
